Description

The Discipline of Civil, Structural and Environmental Engineering at Trinity College Dublin seeks the modernisation of an existing 400 kN servo-hydraulic Universal Testing Machine. The objective of this project is to extend the operational life and functionality of the existing four-column fatigue-rated loading frame and hydraulic infrastructure by replacing the obsolete servo-controller with a modern, software-driven digital control system. The upgraded system must be capable of performing both static and dynamic testing in compression and tension under force, displacement and strain control modes. The scope of works includes the provision of a PC workstation and dedicated control software, calibration of the existing load cell and LVDT, replacement of hydraulic hoses, and servicing or replacement of the current servo valves. Safety upgrades are also required, including installation of an electronically controlled hydraulic isolation manifold, in-line pressure switch and emergency stop. The modernised system must support data acquisition speeds of at least 1000 Hz and comply with the calibration requirements of EN ISO 7500-1.
